Debris recovered from Batticaloa seas not part of an aircraft

Source: The Island

BattiAirPartThe navy has sought the assistance of the Air Force to identify an object believed to be part of an aircraft, recovered off Kaluthawalai, Batticaloa.

The navy recovered it after fishermen engaged in deep sea fishing spotted it about 20 nautical miles north off Pasikkudah seas on Monday. Subsequently, it was taken to Trincomalee navy base last Friday and handed over to the Air Force yesterday.

Air Force headquarters confirmed that it was certainly of foreign origin. As there had been some Russian words on the recovered body part, The Island sought clarification from experts. According to them it was a technical term which could meaningfully translate into English. However, they emphasised that the recovered part wasn’t of an aircraft.

Well informed sources told The Island that the recovered section could be from a missile jointly developed by two countries though confirmation couldn’t be made.
